Yesterday began the start of the fall season practices for the Division I and Division III season for the Detroit Tradesmen Rugby teams.
STARTING NOW, practice is held every Tuesday and Thursday, 6:30pm - 8:30pm, at Glen Levey Middle School in Southfield. |

This Saturday, July 17th, the Detroit Tradesmen Rugby Club are traveling to the 21st annual Hard Rock 7's Tournament in Grand Rapids. The tournament is at the Grand Rapids Gazelle's new pitch located at:

This past weekend the Tradesmen headed to the Sweet 16 for the 5th straight year. From 2006-2008 the club accomplished this in D2. The past two years it has been at the D1 level. On Sat. the Tradesmen faced off against Mystic River once again. The game see-sawed a bit and the home team was up early 8-0. Mystic then rattled off 13 straight before the Tradesmen scored on the last play of the half to go up 15-13. The 2nd half once again saw Mystic go on a spurt aided by a yellow card and they took the lead 30-15. The Tradesmen weren't done and fought back and trailed 30-20 with 9 minutes left. The game was almost a mirror image of last years game where in the final minutes Mystic kept knocking on the door. This time the Tradesmen were but couldn't punch it in again and the final was 30-20.
Sunday brought the consolation game vs New Haven and a whole different starting line-up. Once again the Tradesmen found themselves battling from behind and were down 20 at one point in the second half. Our guys weren't done and put on a furious comeback. With 5 minutes left the home team was only down 5 and had numerous opportunities to tie it or take the lead. It wasn't meant to be and the final score at the whislte was 34-29. |

The Detroit Tradesmen Rugby Football Club will be fielding a 7's team this summer at the following national qualifier events:
June 19- Chicago 7's
June 26- Milwalkee 7's
July 17th- Grand Rapids 7's
July 24th- Midwest 7's
7's practice is already in full swing and takes place every Thursday at 6:00pm sharp (unless otherwise noted) at Glen Levey Middle School. All experience levels are welcome! |

On Saturday, May 1st the Tradesmen defeated Boca Raton 33-8 to advance to the Sweet 16 for the 5th year in a row and the 2nd straight in Division 1. The Tradesmen controlled the game from the onset and raced out to a large half-time lead. Although in control the score could have been much closer due a lot of penalties. Boca missed 4 penalty kicks in the first half and a few more in the second. The home team withstood the hot conditions and hung on for the well deserved win. A lot of changes have taken place since the end of the fall season with a coaching change and player retirements so everyone was unsure how the team would respond. Continuity seemed to start coming together during the Boca game. Heading into Columbia the club will be without several forwards that played well. |
