2021 RECAP

In the wake of COVID lockdowns the Detroit Tradesmen had a banner 2021. Our 7’s team had the highest turnout ever with the support of four competitive sides. Our teams were able to bring home a lot of hardware this summer, including a championship in the Steel City 7’s. The Tradesmen’s performance earned them a trip to compete at the 7’s National Championship Tournament for the first time in club history. It was successful weekend finishing 3-2 on the field, having Conrad Bontrager make the all tournament team and getting many new Tradesmen a experience like none other.

With a strong 7’s season, the Detroit Tradesmen head into a very strong Fall 15’s season. The Detroit Tradesmen Division 1 side finished 7-2-1 this fall which put them in 2nd place in the Midwest Premiership East division. A few highlights from the season were handing the Midwest champion Chicago Griffins their only loss of the season, Adam Saad hitting a long penalty kick vs the Chicago Lions as time expired to get the win and 24 different players scoring tries this season for Division 1. Leaders in tries were Chenning Duker, Evan Shoup and Pita Moala.

The Division 3 side finished 6-2 on the season and finished third place in North/Central/East Midwest division. Some highlights from the season were battling division champion Fort Wayne until the final whistle in a very tight match (40-38) and traveling to Traverse City with only 15 while coming out on top (86-12). The Tradesmen out scored the opposition 355-153. Leaders in tries were Derek Fraser, Kevin Muto and Seth Burton. Aaron Cooch was 36/41 kicking for points this fall.

To cap off 2021, the Detroit Tradesmen sent down two full squads to the RAN Beach 5’s tournament, taking 3rd and 5th place.

We look forward to rugby in 2022 and continuing our standard of winning. Let’s Ride!!!
